Happiness is something most people want and some believe they can never find their true state of happiness.
Some of the most successful people are not happy. They have everything their heart and mind desires yet something seems incomplete or empty for them.
Happiness is difficult to define. Happiness is not relating to material wealth or material goods as some people search for the meaning of happiness in a new car, TV, holiday. Nor is it about waiting for life to happen e.g. I will be happy when I get a promotion, find a husband/wife, have a child etc.
I believe that true happiness is more about the relationship we have without ourselves rather the relationship we have with material things.
My favourite quote on happiness is by Gandhi "Happiness is what you think, what you say and what you do are in harmony."
This first step to creating this harmony is beginning to get to know the "real you", showing understanding, compassion, love and kindness to yourself.
If you dislike yourself how can you be happy?
About 15 years ago I went on my own journey to discover what happiness is and get to know who I really was.
I thought happiness was all about what shoes, handbags, clothes, hiding my true self.
Now my relationship with myself is a positive and wonderful one, I find immense joy and happiness in a beautiful flower in the countryside, writing comedy with my partner, drawing and sketching, hiking, dancing, having dinner parties, being with friends and family, patting Huckleberry the cat, gardening, laughing, working, having "me" time, the list goes on!
I experience this happiness because of my relationship with myself and I am in harmony with all that I think, say and do.
