One thing that really surprises me in the world of therapy or hypnotherapy is that few therapists actually teach their clients how to build inner resources and skills.
In a sense they are aiming for short-term success - the client leaves the session and get's on with their life then BAM something happens at work or in their relationship which they have little control over and they revert back to their old ways of behaving and their thoughts and emotions begin to spiral out of control.
A pattern which I see emerging is that some therapists are teaching their clients tools and techniques but are not going deeper with it - they are not building the necessary skills or resources to use these tools and techniques - so no wonder often it doesn't work.
For me personally and professionally, building skills and resources is one of the foundations for long-term success. Without strong resources, skills and awareness it's so very easy to get stuck in old behavioural patterns.
What are inner resources?
Inner resources is a person's capabilities to get through life. It's an innate part of you (as well as resources that are developed) that is that ability to get through life with strength, dignity and resilience. Something you can connect to draw upon to help you manage emotions and thoughts and external situations. It could be emotional strength, calmness, confidence, motivation, intelligence, creativity, courage, communication skills, passion or energy.
Why are inner resources vital to a successful and happy life?
Regardless whether you are a business leader, entrepreneur, student or a stay at home (full-time) mother inner resources are vital to a happy and successful life.
Without inner resources we may find it difficult to connect to your intuition - our gut feeling. We would not have the flexibility to flow through life and achieve what we want to achieve.
Inner resources provides us with the ability to be courageous and live the life we want to live. They helps us to manage whatever life throws at us. Remember you do not have control over what happens to us all time - but we do have a choice on how we want to respond. Inner recourses gives us that choice.
Here is an example of someone who experiences social anxiety and how building inner resources can help them:
Strength - Emotional strength to create the changes they seek
Courage - to get out of your comfort zone and go to social functions
Confidence - To speak, feel and be more confidence in social or professional situations
Calmness - The ability to manage anxiety and feel calmer and more relaxed
In my next post I will share with you some tips on how to build your inner resources. I look forward to connecting with you then. In the meantime time have a fantastic day!
