Many people believe that meditation is all about being peaceful and calm. Sit still for 60 minutes and the rest of the day will be filled with calmness and if not then it's a failure!
Meditation is also a pathway to getting to your know your deeper most inner self. Don't worry - it's not as scary as it sounds!
Let me explain
We tend to shut off part of ourselves to the world and also ourselves. This closed part can consist of dark thoughts, emotions or experiences. We can not bare to look at them, let alone allow others to also see it.
So our energy in spent on trying to hide from ourselves and others that we forget how to truly live.
Does that resonate with you? I know it did with me many years ago.
I did therapy, personal development workshops, read so many self-help books, it helped a little but I still felt that something was missing - I still loathed myself.
I was feeling frustrated, lost, and lonely in London, so out of desperation I decided to go away for a week's meditation workshop in the wilds of Scotland.
This was a magical (and rather emotional) week of getting to know myself again. Meditation gave me the courage to meet my inner demons head on - the shame, guilt, depression and everything else that was there.
At first it was frightening and so very uncomfortable but gradually my life just seemed to fall back into place. All the emotions I thought were dark were actually normally - each person experiences these as some point in their lives, however the longer I tried to hide from them the darker they felt.
The more I accepted each emotion, feeling and thought I realised that self-hatred transformed into self love and my life became much deeper and more enriched in many ways.
When I reflect on my life now I am amazed how far meditation has helped me, I have deeper connection with myself, others and nature. It gave me the courage to be ME and reach for my dreams.
Meditation helped shaped my life and I would love to share what I have experienced to help you to gain a deeper and enriched life.
Meditation is not just constricted to clearing your mind of thoughts, it's also a pathway to understand yourself and feel more connected and stronger in your life.
