Sometimes I simply do not understand the world or the actions of our fellow human beings take. Yesterday a Malaysian flight was shot out of the air, the conflict in Palestine and Israel intensifies, and hundreds of school girls are still missing in Nigeria their fate unknown and many other conflicts are still raging around the world.
It truly breaks my heart that a cross section of the world can use hatred to cause pain and suffering to others in the name of their God, power struggles or territorial issues.
As I am writing this my mind travels back in time to my twenties when I was out with friends and the last song in the night clubs was the song from Wet Wet Wet "Love is all around". I'm smiling as I write this, as reflecting back the song was rather cheesy but when this song was first released I listened to and re-listened to it countless times until it became a part of me!
Despite all the hatred in this world, love is also all around us. Waiting for us to open our hearts to allow it to flow in and out of our lives. As a society we just need to turn off the internet and social media and connect with our fellow human beings, our neighbours, family and friends in a real way and open our hearts, mind and soul to love.
We need to remember what is real and important in our lives. We all enter this world the same way and we all leave the world in the same way. Regardless of how much money is in our bank accounts, or what car we drive or where we live, or even what god we decide to follow - we are essentially the same.
One of my favourite quotes is by Ghandi "Be the change that you want to see in the world". This is a quote I live my life by. In a time where the world has lost many inspirational and great leaders - we can lead ourselves. The change that we create naturally impacts others.
I use to get upset and angry about the state of the world, now I also focus on what is beautiful and right about this wonderful earth that we live on. Prolonged anger keeps people stuck where as creating change within us and the world around us helps to keep us moving.
