As enter the birth of a new year I invite you to take some time out to reflect on the past year and how you would like to experience the new year ahead.
2016 certainly had it's ups and downs on so many different levels from Brexit, American Elections, the middle east, terrorist attacks, hate crimes and with so many people suffering around the world. Throw this into the mix of your own personal challenges of 2016, and you can see why 2016 has been an unsettling year for many.
I don't like new years resolutions as we all know that for most they last the blinking of an eye. We start out with great intentions, hopes and forced will power but before we know it we have returned to our old ways and the new year's resolution returned to dust.
New Year intentions are usually only surface level, and we don't invest our energy, focus and motivation into them as the benefits are not high enough to keep us going.
It was nearly ten years ago I set my last new years intention! Now I focus on creating a theme for the new year ahead as themes are much more successful. They go deeper into our dreams, vision and hopes for our lives.
Some of my clients themes for 2017 include building deeper relationships with their partner, to be more grounded, to create a healthier lifestyle, to be authentic, to step up in their life with strength, improve their sex life, to practice loving-kindness to themselves and others.
Your theme for 2017
You are invited today to spend some time in stillness to reflect on your theme for the new year ahead. what are you ready to let go off? What are you willing to change? What is missing in your life?
Here's a tip: Imagine you have travelled through 2017 and have reached 31 December 2017 and about to welcome in the new year of 2018. As you reflect upon 2017 what is different, how have you changed, what is your quality of life like, have you achieved what you wanted to, are you successful, happy and embracing love? Basically what is missing in your life that you would like to change.
Use this as your own guide to set your theme.
A new year brings an end to the year 2016 and a new beginning for 2017 so I wanted to share this beautiful and inspirational words from the writer, philosopher and poet John O'Donohue
For a New Beginning
In out of the way places of the heart
Where your thoughts never think to wander
This beginning has been quietly forming
Waiting until you were ready to emerge.
For a long time it has watched your desire
Feeling the emptiness grow inside you
Noticing how you willed yourself on
Still unable to leave what you had outgrown.
It watched you play with the seduction of safety
And the grey promises that sameness whispered
Heard the waves of turmoil rise and relent
Wondered would you always live like this.
Then the delight, when your courage kindled,
And out you stepped onto new ground,
Your eyes young again with energy and dream
A path of plenitude opening before you.
Though your destination is not clear
You can trust the promise of this opening;
Unfurl yourself into the grace of beginning
That is one with your life’s desire.
Awaken your spirit to adventure
Hold nothing back, learn to find ease in risk
Soon you will be home in a new rhythm
For your soul senses the world that awaits you.
